Notable Projects

N8N Workflow AI Automations and Integrations

This first project I setup was to extract Devaims jobs to help act as my personal AI Assistant. After extracting the jobs, it runs the job description through a LangChain process to match the job skills with my previous contracts. This helps me find relevant jobs and ensures the work I'm doing is always 100% successful while expanding my skill set. The AI has fundamentally improved my workflow by finding jobs I couldn't look for because I was on a contract, and improving my skill set by making suggestions for how to successfully complete the client's project in a timely manner.

HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript Training

This client is a manufacturer that builds custom HVAC filters for commercial contractors. Due to the nature of this work, ordering custom filters required building a custom form to manifest sales with an easy user experience. Since this is a WordPress Multisite, this custom order form had to fit flawlessly into WordPress and WooCommerce. All the custom products were modified with custom code to build the pricing structure and the frontend forms delivered the pricing results. I completed all of this architecture, both frontend and backend, singlehandedly. I do not hire other developers to solve problems because I can solve any issues.

WordPress Code Meta SEO Plugin

Complete Python Boot Camp

When I update and optimize a client's website, I am usually hired after the client has tried numerous other programmers from either here on Devaims or from some other freelance platform. Sometimes the client has tried to do this themselves, but the hosting company they've engaged doesn't employ anyone that can solve their problems. This leaves many clients frustrated and wondering if what they're trying to achieve can be done. The answer is "yes it can be done". The trouble is not what you want to achieve, the trouble is finding someone that knows how to setup the infrastructure so that you can achieve your goals. In this case, the client did all the right things and nothing was working. The trouble was not the client's choices, the trouble was the hosting company's lack of knowledge. Just because a client buys a larger and more powerful server, doesn't mean that their problems will be solved. That server needs to be setup correctly. This is where nearly all clients are lead to believe that if they simply spend more money, then they'll be better off. This is never the case. Web hosting companies don't setup their server's for top performance, that's something the client must do. All servers are setup with a generic starting point, and in my career, I've never encountered a web hosting company that knows how to setup a server correctly for maximum performance. In nearly all cases, the server is not setup at all. Out of the box, the software is only setup to allow for a handful of website connections. If you need 10,000 connections per day, then you're going to need the server software to be configured correctly. This is where I come in. I routinely take companies that are making $500,000 in annual online sales and quadruple that number to $2,000,000 annually. I do this every month, for all my clients. In some cases, it's not even necessary to upgrade the server. How do I do it? Experience, experience, experience.

CentOS Linux Server DevOps

My formal education came directly from Redat linux back in 1999-2000. Back then, they didn't provide any graduation certificates, or have formal courses someone could enroll in. I used to build High Performance Parallel Computing (HPPC) clusters for universities, government agencies and large corporations, like Exxon-Mobil. Redhat was on-site to help us learn how to load the clients custom configurations for their high performance systems. These systems were then shipped to the site, and we were flown out to set them up and train the client on how to access and run their new HPPC. Today, CentOS (the free version of Redhat) is the most powerful linux operating system on the planet. I took this course from Udemy to ensure that you, the client, understand that I do have advanced training in the command line and a large range of skills when it comes to server DevOps. Please let me know what I can do for you.

SEO PageSpeed Optimization

The goal for this project involved merging the SEO of three websites so that they complement one another in the search results. This unique glass manufacturer was targeting contractors and real estate developers. Here's some of the advice I presented: Website structure is the most difficult part of building a properly formatted, search engine friendly, website, and nearly everyone gets it wrong. The elements on each page, and how they are interpreted by the search engine pattern matching bots, is not an answer that Google, or any other search engine, will disclose. Therefore, through trial and error, the target site can be structurally optimized, but at great expense to the site owner. A properly structured website is expensive because the only way to achieve it is through manual input, or highly sophisticated server automation scripts. At present, only CodeMilitant offers any server automation scripts to update a website’s structure. To outline the website structure, it must look like the following: Website Title Description Keyphrases relevant to page title and content H1 Header Tag - Only one per page No content under the H1 tag - only intro paragraph with H2 tag H2 Header Tag - Only one per page Content relevant to all tags above plus internal links H3 - H6 Header Tags - Multiple per page Content relevant to all tags above plus internal links As can be seen here, the layout of each and every page is not only logical, but is highly relevant to search engine rankings, but it’s very time consuming to get it right. CodeMilitant has developed automation scripts to handle many of these elements such as, adding header tags, creating new internal links while maintaining existing internal links, adding keyphrases and categories. While CodeMilitant uses server automation scripts, these are not server scripts that can be run on any other hosting because the web hosting companies do not allow such scripts to be run. Header tags are key, and each paragraph would focus on each element of the shipping process, with each paragraph title focusing on the content coming up in the underlying paragraph. Using header tags to introduce the next paragraph is vital to getting the search engines to properly index the site. The structure of the header tags would look like this: <h1>How to ship your car internationally</h1> (This is the page title) <h2>Shipping a car internationally</h2> (This is the blog post title) <p>Intro paragraph that highlights what’s involved. Maybe just a short checklist, of what to expect.</p> <h3>Prepping your car for shipping</h3> <p>Here’s where you could answer questions. Should my car be clean? </p> <p>How much gas should I leave in the tank?</p> <p>Do I drive my car to the shipping port?</p> <h3>Choosing a shipping agent</h3> <p>Not every shipping agent is the same. Here at Example Shipping, we deliver gold star results that will make you smile.</p> All blog posts should be at least 300 descriptive words, or more. That means after all non-conjunction words are removed (and, but, or, etc…), there should be at least 300 words in the post. While this is not revealed by the search engines to be right or wrong, experience dictates that a 300 word minimum is a cutoff. Anything below 300 words will be completely ignored by the search engines as a top ranking answer. Getting the visitor to click somewhere on the landing page is vital. This can be anything that will take them to another page (on the same site), open a form, send an email, download a PDF or make a phone call. These usually take shape in the form of buttons or “Call To Actions” (CTA) and is required in multiple places throughout the page. Lack of a click by the visitor will be considered a bounce, and it will add to the bounce rate, which will reduce search engine rankings.

Automation == Success

For this project, my client asked for some consulting advice, and wanted help building a WordPress Multisite that students could use to signup for a website. It was an introductory college course to building a website for a potential future business. The teacher building the platform required answers to help solve problems that could not be addressed through a simple WordPress plugin. The primary issue was, "How to update the Nginx web server configurations every time a student entered a new FQDN (fully qualified domain name)?" This client required a custom solution because the WordPress website framework cannot access the server configurations, and restart the web server. It doesn't matter if it's Nginx, Apache, Microsoft, LiteSpeed or anything else. A website framework, of any kind, cannot update the server configurations. This where I came in. First, I had to setup a server that was even capable of handling the client's requirements. Then, I had to build a custom server side script that would fully automate the process of determining if there were any new domains, rejecting malformed URLs, building the correct web server configuration files (no duplicates), install Let's Encrypt SSL certificates, send an email on any errors, and restart the web server only if there was a successful server configuration test. Since this was a script the client wanted to "set and forget", it had to be bullet proof. It had to have multiple layers of fail safes for any and all possible contingencies. Contingencies like, what if the Let's Encrypt certificate fails, what to do with a malformed URL, what if the WordPress database happens to be down when the script wants to requests data, what if a student enters a new subdomain weeks later (maybe for a final exam). As anyone with server admin experience can tell you, one comma or semi-colon out of place can crash the entire web server. There can be no mistakes for this to run smoothly. Think of the results if this didn't work, or how a business like this would have to run if the automation failed, or didn't exist. Everything would have to be manually entered, verified, restarted and debugged. It's not possible to have a profitable business without this automation. To top it all off, this server side script had to execute in just a handful of milliseconds, and completely shutdown from the server processes when complete. Because the script was going to be run every 15 minutes, it was not possible to build a solution that took 20 minutes. Everything had to execute in just a few milliseconds, (including failsafes) and then exit properly, with or without an error. Most of the time, this script runs in 12 milliseconds or less. When a new domain is automatically installed, there's a complete update to the web server, but everything executes in just a few seconds. Now this client has a bullet proof WordPress Multisite configuration for their students, and they can focus on getting new clients, not debugging their web server every day. This automation makes them profitable! Like all my clients, I want you to succeed! Tell me what I can automate for you? Where are your troubles? Thank you! Tom Heibel

SEO, ClickFunnels and Speed

In this project, the client was looking for more speed! Who isn't? When it comes to building a WordPress website, the images are often overlooked as any kind of an issue. When it comes to performance, there are two areas that must be addressed: Server Configurations and Image Optimization This client required both to make their site pages load in just a couple seconds. I know you might be wondering why I'm detailing what I did, but getting your website to load with speed and efficiency is much harder than people can imagine. First, there's the web hosting company. next, there's the server configurations, next is the WordPress installation, and finally, the optimized images. The larger an image, the longer it takes to download. All images, not just the few that are found on select pages, must be optimized to handle the device on which they're viewed. For example, if you want your mobile browser to be your primary platform, then you want to be sure your images are very small. In most cases, no more than 360 pixels wide. If your primary platform is desktop, then you want to set a maximum image size. For example, there's no point in having an image 3500 pixels wide if the site is only going to use 1200 pixels. Most websites need images that are at most just 1200 pixels wide. This client had both mobile and desktop visitors, and I addressed far more than they were asking for because it's not possible to get great performance on all devices unless all the elements are considered. Now maybe you think this is a big time consuming issue, but it's not. In my toolbox of program scripts, I can optimize all your images in just a few hours, and you will instantly see performance improvements. What about the servers? The big push in web development is the website that you can build in just a few minutes. You can see these ads running on national TV spots all the time. "Build your website In under an hour!" If all you want is a website that has no functionality to it, then by all means, go post a few images and your contact info to these companies and hope for the best. If all you want to do is point people to your brick and mortar business, then just sign up for a Google My Business listing. You can post descriptions and images, and oh yes, it's free. If you're serious about making money online, and your website needs to be optimized at all times, then you want to use a VPS (Virtual Private Server). They can run anywhere from $50+ per month, but they're well worth it. These VPS web servers are also well supported by the web hosting companies, and are often setup on their fastest network routers. ClickFunnels is a web hosting company that helps you build web pages, and keeps all the stats on how many times someone has visited, and what they did on the page. ClickFunnels is a specialized host that's designed to help you find where you're having troubles. For example, why your visitors are not clicking for that Free Download. SEO (search engine optimization) is by far the most comprehensive and most difficult aspect of having a great website that will make you money. SEO involves all of the above requirements, and it never stops. It's like the fashion industry, it never stops, it only evolves. This is why there's no one WordPress plugin that will satisfy SEO requirements. It takes hard work and dedication to make it all come together. I am one of the only freelancers here on Devaims that has a complete SEO script for WordPress. Any SEO requires building the infrastructure your website requires to be well ranked. It also requires a lot of relevant content. If you are a larger company, or a digital marketing agency that's looking to upgrade large volumes of clients, than my SEO scripts, and my CentOS, RedHat Linux server experience will make your clients very happy. See immediate results, and keep your clients right where they should be ... in your portfolio.

WordPress Multisite Crash - Big Pain!

Sometimes, the more complex your website setup, the more difficult it can be to debug when there's a problem. In this case, WordPress multisite can be difficult to debug because you may not know which site is causing the problem. If debugging logs are not turned on, then this can make it difficult to figure out what to do next. What's worse, if you have an issue with WP Multisite, it can crash your entire network. It's always a good idea to have a dev environment setup for testing, especially if you have a WP Multisite. In this case, it's just easier to show you my final summary I messaged to the client, because the issues were many, and the fix was time consuming. For their privacy, I'm not showing their website, just my response to their troubles. My summary explanation to the client follows: I have completed what was requested in the contract, and I’m ready to close it out. Before you attempt to login, please be sure to clear your browser cache. You can now login to all websites just like you always would. There were several problems that caused this. I had to update the web folder ownership and permissions according to Bitnami. I had to remove all plugins and then re-install one at a time to see if any of them were causing a problem. I also had to update your SALT keys. This is necessary when working with plugins, and sometimes the SALT keys can be the trouble as well. These keys are found in your wp-config.php file of your WordPress root directory. I also updated all your site links to HTTPS, for all domains that were listed in your SSL security certificate. You should not get any warnings about unsecure links. If you do, it’s because it’s an external link, and I can fix these up for you. The one plugin that was causing the redirect issue was “bookingrobin”. Presently, this cannot be re-installed or you’ll lose those sites that were attempting to use it. I have removed it entirely from your web server. I have also left a few plugins out because they are either old and unnecessary, or I updated the sites so you don’t need them anymore. For example, wordpress-mu-domain-mapping is unnecessary. The latest version of wordpress handles domain mapping for wordpress multisite. Also, the All in One SEO pack, and Google Sitemap Generator is unnecessary because you’re running Yoast. That’s an overlap. Yoast handles both of these. The remainder of the list that I did not install is below. If you encounter any issues, of course, please let me know. Thank you and please keep me posted. Plugins left out: all-in-one-seo-pack ssl-insecure-content-fixer wp-dbmanager all-in-one-wp-migration child-theme-configurator google-sitemap-generator really-simple-ssl sucuri-scanner all-in-one-wp-security-and-firewall aryo-activity-log customizer-export-import simple-tags wordpress-mu-domain-mapping

WordPress Multisite on Microsoft Azure

This project involved combining and setting up five websites into one WordPress multisite instance. The client, a large multi-million dollar general contractor, required this new server to be on the Microsoft Azure platform next to all their other systems. Microsoft Azure allows Linux virtual machines to be built, and they are very fast! Much like an Amazon AWS, these servers are extremely high performance. Because the previous web host made it very difficult for someone to make improvements to the website, I recommended the WordPress Multisite solution. In just three weeks, I built their new sites on my private dev servers here, and then migrated everything over to their Microsoft Azure server that I built using CentOS Linux. They also setup a dev site infrastructure to help maintain their live sites. Very smart! As you'll see, their site is very fast, and since it's the WordPress framework, they can achieve anything.

SEO is EVERYTHING!

This client was looking for better SEO, and to get better SEO, the website must perform at top speed. Site performance is a primary factor in SEO. You cannot get to the first page of Google if your website is not loading quickly. In this case, the client's web host was only allowing 10GB of storage for the website. Any modern website requires at least 16GB, and surprisingly, this particular web host would not increase the size of the storage! I've never heard of this before, but that's what happened here. I setup this client on LiquidWeb, and ran my custom built SEO script I use for WordPress only. Today, this client is on the first page of Google for three search phrases directly related to their products and services. Of course, with all the new visits coming in, all the money spent on improving their site will be recovered in new business. Future profits are nearly guaranteed. SEO is extremely difficult! It takes my complex scripts to improve your WordPress site, and I guarantee my work.

Consolidate all onto one server platform

As is very often the case, many clients have issues because they have to deal with multiple web hosting companies. As you many of you know, web hosting companies don't always have the most knowledgable people in their phone support staff. This can be very frustrating! This is not only frustrating, but it's very expensive, it's easy to make mistakes, and it's extremely time consuming. Instead of focusing on bringing in business, the client can be spending much of their day tackling problems with their website(s). The solution here: Consolidate everything onto one server, and setup multiple WordPress instances. It is possible to run multiple WordPress websites from just one server. in fact, you can run thousands of WordPress websites from just one server. I'm not referring to WordPress Multisite, but actual individual instances of WordPress on one server. This concept can escape people, but it's easy to setup, and much easier for you the client to administer. Hire me to get your server life organized, and you'll have far fewer headaches.

Broken and bleeding

Not all clients have had great experiences here on Devaims, and it's not unusual for a freelancer to jump into a project and then get in over their head. In defense of the freelancers, we don't always know what we're getting into, however, they should have a solution that they can offer, and not just run away. My server skills are my strongest trait! I have built over 2,000 physical and virtual computers in my life, and I build new systems every week. Whether it's an Amazon AWS EC2, or a physical machine for my clients. I love it! This project was one such case where my client's site was broken, and the previous freelancer could not fix it. In fact, they made it worse. First, I got them setup with a new web host, and then tackled the WordPress errors that were breaking the site. Sometimes the issues can be a combination of bad web hosting, which create WordPress errors. Today, this client is setup with the web hosting company LiquidWeb, and their site is very fast! I fixed all the broken elements, and my client's income is back on track. In a short amount of time, my client's increase in income will pay for all these repairs. Hiring a "Top Rated" freelancer is always a solution for you. Even if you decide to go a cheaper route at first, you can always count on us to get you back on track. That's what's so great about the Devaims platform!

Small ecommerce, big performance

This client hired me to improve their website by making it functional and fast. The previous web host offered no solutions, as is usually the case, and the website was going nowhere. Now the site is setup on an Amazon AWS EC2 instance that's so small, he has yet to receive a bill! I'm not kidding. This will not last forever, but when they do get a bill, it will be less than $10 bucks a month. As you'll see when you pull this site up, it is very fast, as are all my server configurations, and now this site delivers results. From going nowhere, to producing results, I provided this client with the answers that web hosting companies will not touch. Freelancer recommendations can be seen in many job descriptions. This is the case because web hosting phone support personnel have no computer skills to help you out. My advice is always free. Just message me, and I'm happy to help out.

Too many web hosts, too much confusion

This client was initially looking for a solution that would speed up their client's websites. Unfortunately, this cannot be done by adding another plugin to WordPress. Website performance is, and always has been, a server issue. If the right hosting is not selected, the site will never be fast. I built a very high performance web server to deliver all of the client's websites and improved website performance by more than 300%. This client also required an email server, and since I'm one of the few freelancers here on Devaims that can do this, I enabled an email server on the same Amazon EC2 instance as their websites. Now they can offer full email services to all their clients, and look more professional doing so. My custom built Bash scripts make adding new websites and email domains quick and easy. The client sites are fast, and this digital marketing agency can handle any client website and email with ease. They can also take on an unlimited number of clients because they're running the Amazon AWS servers for their hosting platform.

Professional Personal Website

When you're a university professor, and you need a professional public profile, then setting up a WordPress website is a great way to go. To improve the overall look of the site, I also added my custom built WordPress plugin RSS feed aggregator to the blog sidebar for a more professional look. This client needed just that, and they also needed a small custom WordPress plugin that allowed a site visitor to enter an email address, and a document, referred to on the page they were viewing, would be emailed to that person with a prefilled email form right from the page they were viewing. Add a few blog posts, and this client now has a permanent presence on the web that will impress any potential client. Just like SEO, this was a project that will, likely already has, pay for itself.

Large food blog ran out of memory, now it makes you hungry :)

I was selected to fix a problem with this beautiful food blog. The problem was the site kept crashing for a multitude of reasons. First, the amount of memory allocated to this site was far too low. Second, the WordPress theme was eating up too much memory with every site visit request. And finally, the images themselves needed to be optimized so the site would load quickly. At my recommendation, this client agreed to have me setup an Amazon AWS server to host this beautiful food blog, and along with my Nginx server configurations, this site is now very fast! The WordPress theme was lacking a child theme, so I worked with the developer to build one, and now the site can be customized and updated without the worry of it crashing. The theme itself had some coding issues that was making the theme very memory intensive, and this was also causing the site to crash if there were too many simultaneous connections. I resolved these issues, and informed the theme developers so they could incorporate these fixes into their theme permanently. Site images and videos are a must, but if they take too long to load, no one is going to stick around. Using a custom built imaging script that I've used for years, I shrunk all the image file sizes down by more than 90%, without the loss of any image quality. When you visit this site, you'll see that it's very fast! Even though each page is filled with big beautiful images, you'll be enjoying these mouth watering images immediately. Even on a cell phone with a poor connection. This website has hundreds of posts and recipes to enjoy, and right now, they're free! Because this site is growing in popularity, the owner of this site will be on the national TV circuit, and it's due in large part to this beautifully optimized website.

Rebuild/Redesign Law Firm Website

This client had an old WordPress website and they required a site that would run faster, and look far more professional. They needed advice on webhosting, DNS, WordPress theme, migration of old to new server, and hundreds of updates to their nearly 200 existing posts. I hit the ground running and tackled many of their problems with my skills as a MySQL database administrator, and a PHP coder. When you hire me, you get professionalism and I get your project done! I made huge bulk updates to their database and website, so the work could be done in a timely and cost effective manner. I added thousands of keywords for SEO, and added my own custom plugins to make their page more professional, social network friendly and search engine optimized. As a bonus, I incorporated Let's Encrypt into their site, so they can have website security for better SEO and online payments. I also made sure their server tested to make sure their server certificates were valid and updated automatically if they were close to expiration. I look forward to their upcoming projects. Great client!
